O Real Madrid fined Federico Valverde and Aurélien Tchouaméni in €500,000 (R$2.9 million) this Friday (8), after a fight that ended with the Uruguayan being taken to a hospital with a “traumatic brain injury”, just a few days before the team visits Barcelona on Sunday.

“Real Madrid has decided to impose a financial sanction of five hundred thousand euros on each player,” the club announced in a statement.

Os two players expressed regret and apologized to each other during their hearing, this Friday, before the officer in charge of the disciplinary proceedings opened against them, the club explained in its statement.

“In addition, they conveyed their apologies to the club, their teammates, the coaching staff and the fans and both made themselves available to Real Madrid, agreeing to accept any sanction that the club considered appropriate,” the statement added.

O Real Madrid closed the caseimposing a substantial financial sanction but no sporting punishment.

which resulted in the Uruguayan briefly going to the hospital to be treated.

Although described by the media as a physical fight, Valverde stated, in an Instagram post, that it was just a discussion which did not actually come to fruition.

During the dispute, “I ended up accidentally hitting a table, suffering a small cut on my forehead”, explained Valverde.

O Uruguayan is currently sidelined due to a “traumatic brain injury” and will have to complete a rest period of approximately two weeks. As a result, he will be missing his team for Sunday’s ‘El Clásico’ at the Camp Nou, a match in which Barcelona could win the LaLiga title.

Frustration

“I’m truly sorry, because this situation hurts me and the moment we are going through hurts me,” Valverde said in his statement on Thursday.

“What happened this week in training is unacceptable,” said Tchouaméni, in turn, this Friday on his Instagram account, apologizing to the fans and the club.

Eliminated from the Copa del Rey by Albacete (2nd division team) and the Champions League against Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals, Real Madrid has a slim chance of winning the Spanish Championship title.

In second place in the table and eleven points behind leaders Barcelona, with four rounds remaining and twelve points still up for grabs, only a victory for the Merengues can keep the tenuous hopes of Álvaro Arbeloa’s team alive.

However, to prevent Barça from winning their second Spanish championship, a true collapse of the Catalan team would be necessary until the end of the season.

O Real Madrid is heading towards the second consecutive year without titlesa situation that appears to have significantly increased tension and frustration within the Merengue squad.

“But frustration cannot justify everything. These incidents, although they can occur in any dressing room, do not suit Real Madrid,” said Tchouaméni.

“We wasted another year, and I wasn’t here just to post on social media, when the only face I needed to show was on the pitch, and I feel like I did that,” Valverde said in his statement on Thursday.

“That’s why it hurts me and saddens me even more to be going through this situation, which prevents me from playing in the next match due to medical decisions”, he concluded.

The Merengues players trained this Friday, the day before the game, without Valverde, but with Tchouaméni, who trained normally.

“Now is the time to move forward, and all our focus is on ‘El Clásico’ and the rest of the season, to put the club back at the top, exactly where it belongs,” concluded the Frenchman.
