Flávio talks about an 8-year government after being against re-election – 05/09/2026 – Politics

The senator (PL-RJ), mentioned in a speech this Friday (8) the possibility that, if elected, his government would last eight years.

The speech, made impromptu to a businessman in Santa Catarina, contradicts his allies that, if he wins in October, he will leave the way open for other candidates in 2030. The senator has said that.

“My dream, and what I will achieve, is to end the government, Jorginho [Mello, governador de SC]whether in four years, in five years, in eight years, where we will be able to beat our chests and say: ‘Fewer people depend on politicians to bring food into their homes and bring dignity to their families'”, stated the senator.

Flávio announced in February that he filed a PEC (proposed amendment to the Constitution) to end re-election in the country. The measure aims to attract the endorsement of governors, leaders and parties that are in line to contest the Palácio do Planalto in a scenario without (PT) or Bolsonaros at the polls.

One of Flávio’s nods is the governor of , (Republicans), who in 2030 will have the presidential race as a natural option, after seeking re-election this year.

The senator’s interlocutors deny, however, that there is already any prior agreement with the governor for him to be the next presidential candidate of the Bolsonarist right.

In his speech, Flávio also said that the left will be insignificant for up to 40 years, if he wins the election.

“We are going to put an end to the PT cycle in this country. You will never hear about the left again in the next 30, 40 years, because they will be placed in the place they should never have left, which is insignificance. It is a cancerous mentality”, he stated.

Flávio spoke alongside the governor (), a pre-candidate for re-election, the deputy (PL) and the former councilor (PL), pre-candidates for the Senate. He reaffirmed his support for the PL duo in the state.

The senator also criticized the Lula government’s foreign policy and economic conduct.

When commenting, he said that the PT member missed an opportunity to intensify the fight against organized crime.

“Lula missed another opportunity to go to the United States and really start fighting criminal organizations here in Brazil. But no, he goes there, he brings absolutely nothing concrete, good news for the Brazilian people. It seems that he was, once again, defending the interests of his voters, the CV and the PCC, instead of forming a partnership with the United States, Israel, Argentina”, he stated.

Flávio also said that he intends to propose a new tax reform, to change the one approved in Congress in this Legislature, following a proposal from the Lula government. The senator stated that he intends to reduce taxes without indicating revenue compensation, as determined by the Fiscal Responsibility Law.

“I want to start my transition, God willing, after the election results, already sending a new tax reform to myself, which doesn’t have to be neutral. […] The law says that you cannot reduce taxes without saying how you compensate for this loss of revenue. This will change because the [ex-] president [Jair] Bolsonaro proved that, with a modern government, with a government that doesn’t steal, with a lean government, with a digitalized government, you can lower taxes and revenue will increase. And the consequences are wonderful for everyone.”
