One of the founders of the party said that the victory of Boulos’ group in federation with the PT could make the party lose its reason for existing
The state deputy of Rio Grande do Sul (Psol) stated, on Friday (May 8, 2026), that “it was a battle of life and death for Psol” against the minister of the General Secretariat, (Psol), who defended a federation with the Workers’ Party.
One of the party’s founders, Luciana Genro said that the internal dispute involved the future and political independence of the party in relation to the PT.
“If Boulos had won, the very reason for existence of the Psol could disappear. It would become another party within this center-left spectrum here. Because I no longer see the PT today as a left-wing party”said Genro, in an interview with Mauro Lopes on , of Farol Brasil.
Luciana Genro stated that she sees the PT as a center-left party.
“Of course there are people on the PT left. But the PT as a party became a center-left party, a party whose strategy is to manage capitalism”, said the state representative.
Psol emerged in 2004 precisely as a result of dissent from the president’s party (PT). Since 2022, the acronym has been part of a federation with the Sustainability Network, which was renewed in March 2026 and will last for another 4 years.
“I think that the emptying of Boulos has to do with this statement from Psol. Understanding the importance and need for Psol to be an independent party in relation to the PT, not to be an auxiliary line”said the state deputy.
Psol voted against federation with PT
On March 7, the Psol national directory voted, by 75% of the votes, against the implementation of a federation with the PT. Members more to the left of the party composed a resolution with sectors of the internal majority and defeated the “Solidarity Revolution” group, linked to Boulos and the former minister of Indigenous Peoples and pre-candidate for the Chamber of Deputies (Psol-SP).
