More than 2,500 vacancies for doctors newly specialists no National Health Service were identified for competition, including 1,749 for hospital specialties, 711 for General and Family Medicine and 68 for Public Health.
According to the order published today in Diário da República, in the area of General and Family Medicine (MGHF) – the so-called family doctors – the largest number of vacancies was identified in the Local Health Unit (ULS) Amadora-Sintra (90), followed by ULS Arrábida (65), Loures-Odivelas (52), Leiria Region (51), Tagus Estuary (35), S. José (33) and Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (25).
Nas hospital specialties, The one with the highest number of vacancies identified is Internal Medicine (201), followed by Anesthesiology (126), Pediatrics (109), Gynecology/Obstetrics (91), General Surgery (85), Orthopedics (84), Psychiatry (73), Cardiology (61), Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (58), Intensive Care Medicine (55), Radiology (54) and Gastroenterology (51).
In the area of Public health 68 vacancies were identified.
According to the order, signed by the Minister of Health, Ana Paula Martins, the respective competitions for the hospital area are the responsibility of the administration of each health establishment and the notices must be published in the Diário da República next Monday.
As for the others (MGHF and Public Health), the order only says that the opening is the responsibility of the board of directors of the Central Administration of the Health System (ACSS).
