Brazilian cinema was awarded in the list of winners of the main categories of the Platino awards, in Mexico, on the night of Saturday, 9th. In addition to The Secret Agent, which received four trophies, Apocalypse in the Tropics, a documentary by Petra Costa, and the soap opera Beleza Fatal, from HBO Max streaming, are among the winners.
The main prize of the night, best Ibero-American fiction film, went to The Secret Agent, as well as the one for script, actor (Wagner Moura) and director (Kleber Mendonça Filho).
The film, which takes place in Recife during the Brazilian military dictatorship, was one of the great highlights of national cinema in recent years, alongside I’m Still Here.

He even competed for the Oscar last March in several categories, but didn’t win any. In the international category, the award went to Norwegian Valor Sentimental.
Apocalypse in the Tropics talks about the relationship between leaders of evangelical religions in Brazil and the political and social context of the country today.
Beleza Fatal, in turn, is a serial by Raphael Montes that features a strong cast with names like Camila Pitanga, Giovanna Antonelli and Camila Queiroz. The production was highly praised by critics and renewed for the 2nd season.
