The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed, in a statement published this Monday, the 11th, the meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump this week. According to the ministry, Trump’s state visit will begin on May 13th and will last until May 15th.
Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun highlighted that Beijing is ready to work with Washington to “expand cooperation” and “manage differences” in a spirit of equality, respect and mutual benefit, providing more stability and security to a changing and unstable world.
“President Xi will have an in-depth exchange of views with President Trump on important issues relating to China-US relations, world peace and development,” he said at a press conference. “Diplomacy between heads of state plays an irreplaceable role in the strategic guidance of China-US relations,” he added.
The Chinese representative recalled that the leaders of the world’s two main powers will meet again in person since the meeting in Busan, South Korea, last October. This will be the first visit by a US president to China in almost nine years.
