Mutual dependence brings Lula and Alcolumbre closer together – 05/11/2026 – Dora Kramer

Definitive breaks in politics are rare. So, right away, none come to mind. Frictions, in general, are resolved, even more so when those involved have common interests and to some extent depend on each other.

This is the case of President Luiz Inácio da Silva and Senator . They are both committed to an agreement, still in its preliminary phase, through messengers experienced in the art of pacification, such as the Minister of Defense, the former deputy.

needs not only to move forward with issues such as the Security PECs and the reduction of working hours, but, above all, to unlock access to the Federal Supreme Court ().

The president of Congress does not want to lose space or influence in the public sector and needs to beware of stronger retaliation, in cases where investigations may involve some type of government interference.

The break does not benefit either of them. Therefore, it is most likely that we will soon see the consolidation of a ceasefire. Probably not a peace deal, because the shots opened deep wounds where resentments often lodge in glacier temperatures.

Resuming dialogue responds to the survival instinct. Between Lula and Alcolumbre there is relative parity of forces. The President of the Republic is far from being the “lame duck” described in some analyzes that are less committed to the facts. These show Lula at the head of the State apparatus and competitive in the October election. Alcolumbre owns the agenda of the Senate — and of Parliament, in the case of joint demonstrations by the two Houses —, through which essential decisions are passed to the Executive.

In addition, moves are being made to renew command in the new legislature from 2027 onwards.

At stake is how the approach will take place, so that there is no surrender or submission of one to the other. Delicate architecture, but essential to the preservation of bridges on which the Republic is supported.
