Explosion in SP: Comgás and Sabesp offer aid of R$2,000, hotel and compensation to victims

One person died and at least three were injured; at least 160 people were left homeless

An explosion this Monday (11) hit at least ten houses in a community in Jaguaré, West Zone of São Paulo.

Residents affected by the gas explosion that destroyed houses in the Jaguaré region, in the west zone of São Paulo, are in vaino receive emergency aid of R$2,000, accommodation in hotels and will have material losses calculated by the companies responsible for the work. The information was confirmed this Monday (11) by representatives from Sabesp and Comgás during assistance to affected families.

At least 160 people were left homeless after the explosion hit properties in the community. A building in the region also suffered structural damage and the electricity supply had to be interrupted for safety reasons.

What happened?

The main suspicion is that a intervention carried out during work involving Sabesp and Comgás caused the leak followed by the explosion. One man died and three other people were injured. Rescue teams used sniffer dogs to check the possibility of people missing among the rubble.

Residents reported moments of despair after the accident. Karoline Magalhães, whose house was destroyed, lamented the death of one of the neighbors affected by the explosion. “He worked at night and rested in the afternoon,” said the resident.

The Secretary of Public Security of São Paulo, Osvaldo Nico Gonçalves, stated that he spoke with the governor and the priority determined by the state government is to guarantee care for the victims.

On social media, Tarcísio de Freitas, governor of São Paulo (Republicans), expressed solidarity with the affected families and mourned the death of the resident. The governor also reported that he participated in meetings with representatives of the companies involved and members of the state government to discuss emergency measures.

In the report, the mayor of São Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), stated that he spoke with Tarcísio de Freitas and reinforced that the city hall’s focus is to guarantee support for families affected by the explosion.
