Two people were killed and six others were injured in a shooting in the southern French city of Nice on Monday. According to law enforcement agencies, the shooting is directly related to drug trafficking. TASR writes about it according to the DPA agency.

According to the prosecutor’s office, the gunman opened fire in front of a grocery store near a place where drugs are often traded. Investigators found 17 shell casings at the scene. After the attack, the shooter escaped in a car parked nearby.
Investigators believe that it was a murder committed by an organized group. Prosecutors said three of the injured had prior criminal records related to drug trafficking.
The mayor of Nice Éric Ciotti reported on the X social network that three injured are in serious condition. He called on the French government to provide the city with the necessary resources to deal with the situation in the Les Moulins neighborhood, where drug gangs have been running rampant for a long time. “The war on drug trafficking must not end with the defeat of the republic,” he declared.
