Alex Davies-Jones resigned from the government of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, becoming the third minister to leave the government this Tuesday (12).
Davies-Jones, minister for Victims and Combating Violence against Women and Girls, wrote in a resignation letter shared on social media that she implores .
“We need to do more and so it is with a very heavy heart that I feel I have no choice but to resign,” Davies-Jones added. “The country has spoken out and we must listen.”
The resignation follows those of Home Affairs Minister Jess Phillips and Miatta Fahnbulleh, Minister of Decentralization, Faith and Communities.
The resignations come at a time when more than 80 MPs from the ruling Labor Party have publicly called on Starmer to set out a timetable for his departure.
At a meeting of his cabinet, Starmer ignored calls to resign and reiterated that although he took responsibility for one of the Labor Party’s worst electoral defeats, . Several loyal ministers expressed support for him.
This was to move forward with a government marked by scandals and sudden policy changes since it won a large majority in the 2024 national elections, leaving the leader and the Labor rebels in something of an impasse.
