Sergio Ramos prepares to acquire 60% of Sevilla

The Spanish footballer reached an agreement, this Tuesday, to acquire around 60% of Sevilla’s share capital, in an operation that still depends on formal signature and approval from Spain’s Superior Sports Council (CSD).

the “full agreement” was reached between Sergio Ramos, representing the Five Eleven Capital fund, and the main shareholders of the Andalusian club.

After a almost 10-hour meeting on Mondaythe former Spanish international met again, this Tuesday, with representatives of the Del Nido, Carrión, Alés, Castro and Guijarro families, who hold Sevilla’s share capital.

The understanding foresees the sale of approximately 60% of the club, valued at just over 400 million euros (M€)with completion of the operation dependent on signature by a notary and approval by the CSD, according to sources involved in the negotiations.

The former Sevilla and Real Madrid player’s first approach to buying the club occurred at the end of last year, with negotiations intensifying from March, when a letter of intent was signed that guaranteed exclusivity to the investor until May 31st.

One of main points of divergence were related to the club’s financial situationnot regarding the overall valuation – situated between R$400 million and R$450 million -, but about the impact of the debt on the value per share.

Debt exceeding R$80 million

The audit conducted by the consultancy KPMG confirmed a debt close to €85 millionin line with management’s most optimistic estimates, which ended up unlocking the business.

In the early afternoon of this Tuesday, Sergio Ramos left the hotel where the negotiations were taking place, smiling and giving a positive sign to the journalists, a gesture later confirmed to EFE by close sources as an indication that the agreement had been closed.

Sergio Ramos, 40, graduated from Sevilla and debuted with the first team in 2003, serving two seasons before moving to Real Madrid. He returned to the Andalusian club in 2023/24, played just one season and went to Mexican side Monterrey, which he left in December, having been without a club since then, although without having yet officially announced the end of his career.
