The governor of Alagoas, Paulo Dantas (MDB), held a draw for 50 Pix, worth R$200 each, during a Mother’s Day event held in Rio Largo, in the Metropolitan Region of Maceió (AL). Images circulating on social media show the state manager announcing, last Sunday, what he defined as “a gift” given together with senator Renan Calheiros (MDB), pre-candidate for re-election.
— You will also receive a gift from Senator Renan and Governor Paulo Dantas. If you like Pix there, raise your hand — the governor told the population. — We want many people to be honored and considered. So, we are going to distribute to you 50 Pix worth R$200 — he added.
On stage, Dantas was accompanied by Renan himself, mayor Pedro Carlos (PP) and vice-mayor Peterson Henrique (PP). Rio Largo is the third largest city in Alagoas, with an estimated population of 97,658 people in 2025, according to IBGE data.
The event entitled “Sorteio das Mães” was held by the local city hall and distributed more than 170 prizes, including furniture, appliances and a motorcycle. On the networks, Carlos stated that the party was “the biggest ever seen in the city”.
Unlike Renan Calheiros, Dantas will not be able to run for re-election. In his place, the pre-candidate for government by MDB is senator Renan Filho, who has already governed Alagoas for two terms. Despite not having attended the event, he was in Rio Largo the day before, Saturday, where he started the “To Make History Again” electoral caravan.
— Alongside Mayor Carlos, from the city of Rio Largo, we are going to make a first sticker here to get Rio Largo ready to make history again — said the senator, in a video posted on social media. — Rio Largo is Renan Filho — he added, in chorus with supporters.

Calheiros did not publicize the draw on his social networks. Sought by GLOBO, he has not yet commented on the case. The space remains open. Governor Paulo Dantas, through the State Secretariat of Communication, informed that the action “has an informal nature” and payments were made “using own resources”.
State draws
On the other side of the political dispute in the state, federal deputy Arthur Lira (PP), pre-candidate for the Senate and Calheiros’ main opponent in the electoral race, also had his name linked to the Mother’s Day draw held in Teotônio Vilela (AL).
He did not attend the event, but his name appeared on the screen set up in the city center as “cultural support” — as well as that of his son Álvaro Lira, pre-candidate for the Chamber of Deputies, and other political allies. Held between Saturday and Sunday, the draw distributed eight motorcycles, as well as bicycles and household appliances. On social media, Mayor Peu Pereira (PP) thanked them for the help.
Earlier this year, in a Christmas raffle held in the same city, Lira and her allies raffled off motorcycles that had their names pasted on a piece of paper. In addition to Álvaro, as with last weekend’s event, the celebration had the “cultural support” of state deputy Fernando Pereira (PP) and former mayor Joãozinho Pereira. Fernando and Joãozinho are brothers, and also cousins of the former president of the Chamber.
In the same week, another draw in São Miguel dos Campos (AL) also had motorcycles delivered with the names of Álvaro and Fernando. At the time, Lira’s advisor told GLOBO that, despite the demonstrations, they did not pay for the purchase of the motorcycles drawn, and the use of Álvaro’s name “was merely informal in nature”.

The former mayor of Maceió, JHC (PSDB), attended the Mother’s Day draw held in Coité do Nóia (AL), which is about 120 km from the capital, on Sunday. He resigned from his position in early April to run in the elections, but has not yet decided whether he will run for government or the Senate.
The former mayor was not linked to the draw, but spoke alongside the city’s mayor, Bueno Higino Filho (PP) before the prizes were awarded. The municipal management, through the Social Assistance Secretariat, drew two motorcycles for the population.
— My brother, know that wherever I am, I will be with you (Bueno). And wherever I am, I will be there to strengthen you. My eternal gratitude to the people of Coité — said JHC on stage.
