Rare: images of a pygmy hippopotamus that was born in a European zoo

The Berlin Zoo released a video showing the birth of a female pygmy hippopotamus, in a birth considered rare, according to information from the zoo.

The cub, Debbie and Tobi’s son, weighed 5.9 kilograms at birth and reached 7.1 kilograms on May 12, three days later.

Pygmy hippos are solitary animals and Debbie will raise the calf alone, the zoo said in a statement.

The calf, still unnamed, remains close to its mother, the zoo added.
