Metro workers approve subway proposal and strike is called off

The decision was made with 1500 votes in favor, another 1294 people voted against and 146 abstained

Metro workers approved this Tuesday night (12) the subway proposal with 1500 votes in favor and the subway strike is cancelled. Another 1294 people voted against and 146 abstained. The category chose not to go down the path of strike, but metro workers stated that they will continue the fight against the privatization of the metro.

The decision was taken by employees in an assembly. The vote took place due to impasses in negotiations with the company management and the state government.

According to employees, the main reason for seeking a strike is the staffing gap. Category data indicate that the number of employees fell by half over a period of ten years. Currently, the network operates with 5,663 employeeswhich are divided between the service areas, train operation, public safety, maintenance e administration. Professionals charge opening of public tendersa process that has not happened for more than a decade.
