Commerce sales grow 0.5% in March, says IBGE

Indicator slowed down compared to the 0.6% increase in February; the measure of expectations of experts consulted by Poder360 projected stability

Retail sales grew 0,5% in March compared to February, in the seasonally adjusted series. There was a slowdown compared to the previous month when the indicator advanced 0,6%. The (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) released the result this Wednesday (April 13, 2026).

Compared to February 2025, in the non-seasonally adjusted series, sales volume increased by 4%. The accumulated result in the last 12 months was 1,8%.

The median expectation of experts consulted by the Poder360 it was stable on a monthly basis and increased by 3% on an annual basis.

EXPANDED RETAIL TRADE

Broad retail trade – which includes vehicles, motorcycles, parts and pieces, construction materials and wholesale specialized in food, beverages and tobacco – fell 0,6% in March.
