Chinese and US delegations began economic and trade consultations in South Korea today, Chinese state news agency Xinhua (New China) reported, ahead of US President Donald Trump’s arrival in China this evening.
The talks are being held at Incheon Airport, near Seoul, the Chinese news agency reported. They are a prelude to the talks that will be held tomorrow, Thursday, and the day after, Friday, in Beijing by the leaders of the US and China.
The presence of Chinese Vice President He Lifeng and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent was announced in South Korea.
Trade negotiations are expected to dominate tomorrow and the day after tomorrow at the meetings in Beijing of the leaders of the world’s two largest economic powers.
The US and China engaged in a fierce trade war with global impact in 2025, imposing exorbitant tariffs and multiple restrictions after Trump returned to the White House.
Trump and his counterpart Xi Jinping struck at least a temporary truce in October, the continuation of which is expected to be discussed during the talks.
