PF investigates alleged fraud in contracts at the Ministry of Health during the pandemic

The Federal Police opened a new front of investigation into contracts signed by the Ministry of Health during the Covid-19 pandemic. Named Operation Supply, the action was launched this Thursday (14) to investigate suspected irregularities in purchases of hospital equipment carried out during the health crisis.

The agents carried out four search and seizure warrants at addresses linked to those under investigation in the states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Paraná. The court orders were authorized by the 15th Federal Criminal Court of the Judiciary Section of the Federal District.

According to the decision that supported the operation, there are signs of possible fraud in contracts made by the department, in addition to suspicions of overpricing and damage to public coffers.

The investigation involves contracts signed to supply the hospital network amid the advance of the pandemic, when the federal government accelerated processes for acquiring medical equipment in the face of pressure on the health system.

The names of those investigated were not released by the PF.

According to the corporation, the investigation included technical analyzes produced by the expertise of the Federal Police itself and also by the Comptroller General of the Union (CGU), responsible for audits of public contracts. The PF reported that the case remains under judicial secrecy.

The investigations now seek to clarify the actions of those involved in the negotiations and verify whether there was misdirection, overpricing or other irregularities in the execution of the contracts under investigation.
