Celso Amorim travels to Russia for the 5th time in Lula 3

Advisor to the President participates in the 1st International Security Forum, in Moscow, from May 25th to 31st

The special advisor to the Presidency, Celso Amorim, will travel to Russia to participate in the 1st International Security Forum, in Moscow, from May 25th to 31st. The ambassador will act as a cybersecurity advisor. This will be Amorim’s 5th trip to the country during the president’s (PT) 3rd term.

Authorization for the trip was published in the DOU (Official Gazette of the Union) on May 11. The decree states that, in addition to the forum, the ambassador may “hold diplomatic consultations” in Russia.

The forum is promoted by the Russian Federal Security Service and the Russian Ministry of Defense. The expectation is that Amorim will deal with topics such as Iran and Venezuela.

The war in Ukraine can also be addressed, but the topic is not considered a priority on the agenda.

CELSO AMORIM IN RUSSIA

The visit to the country in Lula’s 3rd term was in March 2023. Amorim met with Russian President Vladimir Putin, about 1 year after the start of the war in Ukraine.

The second trip to Russia was in April 2024. The ambassador participated in Saint Petersburg in a meeting with national security advisors from Brics countries.

In September of the same year, Amorim returned to Moscow and Saint Petersburg, where he met with Russian authorities.

His last official trip to the country was in May 2025, when he was part of President Lula’s delegation. At the time, the PT member called Amorim Putin’s “old friend”.
