Councilor Amanda Paschoal (PSOL) asked this Friday (15), in a representation presented to the São Paulo Regional Electoral Attorney’s Office, that the first lady of the capital, pre-candidate for state deputy, have her possible candidacy registration revoked and remain ineligible for eight years.
a server from the Municipal Department of Human Rights had been producing videos for Regina’s social networks. Breno de Souza Santos received R$5,637 a month from municipal management, for a 40-hour work week.
The server accompanied the mayor’s wife on pre-campaign schedules during business hours. On Wednesday (13), one day after the reporter contacted São Paulo City Hall to provide clarification, Breno’s dismissal was published in the city’s Official Gazette.
In a statement, the city hall denied that the employee had provided services to the first lady while he was working at the secretariat. The municipal management also said that Breno carried out the activities due to the department and that the Sheet resorted to “systematic persecution to prove its own, unfounded thesis.”
The report found records on social networks that show that the employee had been accompanying Reginas on appointments since February.
The employment of civil servants in campaigns is prohibited by the Elections Law, as described in article 73, in the list of “conducts prohibited to public agents in electoral campaigns”.
In the representation presented this Friday, the councilor asks for Regina’s conviction for allegedly violating this article and for abuse of political power. Paschoal requests the imposition of a fine, declaration of ineligibility for eight years and possible revocation of Nunes’ wife’s registration or diploma, if she contests and wins the 2026 elections.
A Sheet sought out São Paulo City Hall to comment on the representation. The management reaffirmed that Breno normally carried out all the activities under his responsibility and that he asked to be dismissed.
The councilor argues that the use of Breno’s workforce unbalanced the electoral campaign, amid a “deliberate political marketing strategy funded by the treasury.”
“Such undue advantage violates the principle of equality between potential competitors, as it allows the pre-candidate to maintain a robust and professional digital presence without any financial burden for her political project, appropriating resources that should be serving the community in the Human Rights Secretariat”, says the piece.
The representation also requests that the case be sent to the Public Ministry of São Paulo to investigate possible acts of administrative improbity.
