The top brass expelled one of the party’s co-presidents, Iaraci Dias, who is from the (Rede-SP) political group. The party is led by the wing of federal deputy Heloísa Helena (RJ), who is in conflict with the former Minister of the Environment.
The measure was taken by the national directory this Thursday (14) following a decision by the party’s Ethics Council. Iaraci’s group of opponents says there was no evidence of any ethical violation.
“His expulsion, outside the electoral window, goes beyond the limits of internal party life and represents an affront to fundamental constitutional rights,” said Marina’s wing, in defense of Iaraci.
The leader says she was punished for defending the Network’s principles and values. And he complains that the Ethics Council suggested suspension, but the national management opted for the more severe measure.
The party command says that the disciplinary process lasted months and offered ample rights of defense. It also states that the case is serious because it involves political violence against a woman.
“All circumstances are taken into consideration. The procedure is statutory and everyday. These are not pleasant situations, but we need to fulfill our role,” said Paulo Lamac, spokesperson for the Network, a position equivalent to that of president.
On the same day, the party also suspended Giovanni Mockus, Marina’s ally, from a management position. He was the party’s finance coordinator. In this case, the Ethics Council had suggested expulsion, but the leadership reversed the decision.
Mockus alleged political persecution for being a pre-candidate for federal deputy. Iaraci is also a pre-candidate and argued the same, which was not taken into consideration by the management.
