Slander to which the PGR refers, is about the videos shared by Zema on his social media accounts entitled ‘Os Intocáveis’, which criticizes the powerful in Brazil
The Attorney General’s Office denounced this Friday (15) the former governor of Minas Gerais and Novo’s pre-candidate for president, Romeu Zema, to the Supreme Court of Justice (STJ) for slander against the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Gilmar Mendes.
“The accused used public profiles associated with his institutional and political projection to intervene in a debate of national repercussion, related to a jurisdictional act attributed to a Minister of the Federal Supreme Court.”, says Gonet in his decision. “THE conduct thus falls within the field of public activity of the then Governormoving away from the strictly private sphere”, he added.
In the decision, the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet, established a minimum value for compensation for moral damages caused to the victim, in an “amount equivalent to 100 minimum wages”. According to the decision, the amount is a “parameter compatible with the” seriousness of the slanderous imputation, the extent of disclosure and the public repercussion of the offense”.
The slander to which the PGR refers is about the videos shared by Zema on his social media accounts entitled “Os Intocáveis”, which criticizes the powerful in Brazil. In a note, the pre-candidate declared: “The untouchables do not accept criticism. The untouchables do not accept humor. The untouchables do not want to be held accountable for their actions. The untouchables believe they are above other Brazilians. I will not back down a millimeter.”
On April 25th, Zema will share the fifth episode of his series. In the video, he portrayed a call between the puppet ministers of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) in which Gilmar Mendes asks Alexandre de Moraes that includes the former governor of Minas Gerais in the fake news investigation, which is reported by Moraes.
About vThe video also recalls when Gilmar Mendes said that Zema speaks a dialect “close to Portuguese”when referring to the Minas Gerais accent, as he often does not understand what the former governor means. “Take it off the air (the series ‘Os Intocáveis’) and arrest this Chico Bento from Minas Gerais”, ironizes the video.
Zema x Mendes disagreement
Zema and Gilmar Mendes have been at odds since March 1st, when the former governor of Minas Gerais which portrays the magistrate asking Minister Dias Toffoli to exchange favors amid the Banco Master scandal.
After the miner’s posts, Gilmar Mendes sent a representation to minister Alexandre de Moraes calling for an investigation of the presidential candidate. The minister pointed out suspected signs of crime in the publication.
One day after sending Gilmar Mendes’ representation, on the day of the Inconfidência Mineira, Zema made another publication criticizing the STF. The former governor compared the ministers and President Lula (PT) to the Portuguese crown.
“Do you think we are truly free? I don’t think so. In place of the Portuguese Crown, the untouchables of Brasília sat. The sold-out politicians, the thieving businessmen and the judges who think they are above good and evil”, he says in an excerpt from the publication.
The representation that alludes to the Inconfidência Mineira brings images of artificial intelligence with the face of ministers Gilmar Mendes e Alexandre de Moraesin addition to Lula and the banker Daniel Vorcaro.
