Zurich/Fribourg – Host Switzerland got off to an optimal start in the Ice Hockey World Cup. The Swiss beat the Olympic champions and defending champions USA 3-1 (2-0.0-0.1-1) in Zurich on Friday. There was also an opening success for title favorite Canada, who won the match against Sweden 5:3 (2:0,1:3,2:0). Finland also celebrated victories with 3:1 (1:0.0:0.2:1) against Germany and the Czech Republic with 4:1 (2:0.0:0.2:1) against Denmark.
