Ciro Gomes (PSDB) launched this Saturday (16) its pre-campaign for the government of the state of Ceará. If he wins the dispute, he will return for a second term at the Abolition Palace, when he led the state between 1990 and 1995.
In the speech in which he accepted the PSDB nomination, Ciro Gomes attacked the advance of criminal factions in the state during the last 10 years in which the Workers’ Party and the Brazilian Socialist Party were in charge of Ceará. And also ccriticized the abuses being committed in the STF (Supremo Tribunal Federal).
“No one in this country is braver and more fighter than the people of Ceará. But today they live looking the other way, terrified and humiliated by criminal factions. NThere has never been so much progress due to the omission of the authorities”, he stated, remembering that in the last decade no police chief was effectively hired in the state.
Candidate for the presidency of the Republic in four elections, minister of state twice, former mayor of Fortaleza, federal and state deputy, Ciro promised to confront organized crime as a way to resume economic development. “Industries no longer come to Ceará. They are going to Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte”, he explained.
The launch event featured support from former senator and former governor Tasso Jereissati (PSDB), which highlighted Ciro’s gesture in leaving a new race for Palácio do Planalto to compete in Ceará. Jereissati also spoke about public security: “the state no longer belongs to us, the state of Ceará belongs to the factions, or it is in your neighborhood, in your district, wherever you go, the factions are in charge. There is no presence of the state, the people are scared.”
“Arrest him”
In an off-script episode for the launch of a candidacy, Ciro Gomes interrupted his speech and said: “My brother, are you wanting to be arrested? The guy is making the red command symbol. Arrest him.” The now candidate was confused by the gesture of a supporter, apologized and took advantage of the gaffe to send a message. “The red commando, go to jail.”
Union of efforts
In his speech, the PSDB candidate explained his approach to opponents from previous elections to face the Workers’ Party in Ceará. Ciro joined the defeated gubernatorial candidates in 2022, Captain Wagner (União) and Roberto Cláudio (Progressistas).
“If you want to recover on the internet what one said about the other, it will be great for anyone who wants to carry out this sabotage. What is this union for? Is it to serve personal benefit or is it to free Ceará from the greater enemy, the greater evil, the greater tragedy?”, minimized Ciro regarding the attacks already exchanged by the now campaign allies.
Attack on the STF
When presenting former deputy Capital Wagner as a candidate for the Senate, Ciro stated that one of his tasks in Brasília will be to “put a brake on this rotten side of the Federal Supreme Court. It is no longer possible for Brazil to remain silent, afraid, in the face of so much abuse that is happening there”.
Ciro begins touring the state next Friday through the city of Sobral, his political birthplace, and then Crato.
