Former minister Aldo Rebelo stated this Saturday (16) that his pre-candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic for the Christian Democracy (DC) party is maintained, in a press release published on his Instagram account.
The statement comes after news that the party intends to replace him with former minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Joaquim Barbosa, recently affiliated with the party. The information was initially published by the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo.
“My pre-candidacy for the presidency of the Republic is maintained, as per the invitation and commitment of the national leadership of Christian Democracy,” said Rebelo. “The candidacy announced in a test balloon demonstrates everything I defend as political relations supported by transparency and democratic decisions.”
The former minister also stated that candidacies are collective projects and not those of specific groups and interests. He added that he was “chosen to carry out a project of union and development in Brazil, anchored in my unblemished biography and my experience in public administration and in the National Congress”.
