After finishing her studies at the prestigious American college Berklee, the musician Tamara Kramar stayed behind to live behind a big puddle. In the podcast, she revealed that she currently lives in Manhattan, which is the heart of New York. But don’t expect any luxury. The eldest daughter of the actor Maroš Kramár has a tiny recording studio and a living room in one room. “This is my whole life. These four walls,” she noted.
Moving to the USA was not her dream, she was encouraged by a friend and classmate who went to study at a film school in Los Angeles. “She normally signed me up on the Berklee school’s website for their newsletter, and I started getting emails. And then I got an email that November was the deadline (deadline, editor’s note) to apply for a master’s degree in New YorkDepartment of Production and Songwriting (music production and songwriting, editor’s note),” said Tamara, saying that she was interested in the offer and applied.
“America has never been a dream country for me, where I want to live, but at the same time, when else can a person basically just get here through those student visas. I also received a scholarship. Mainly it was a big deciding factor for me. I’d probably be sorry if I turned it down and didn’t go try it,” she described the birth of her decision. She successfully finished her master’s studies and stayed behind the big puddle.
In Slovakia, the name of the young musician through her famous father is strongly connected with art, but abroad the situation is completely different. “Tamara Kramar is a total nobody in America. Let’s face it, shall we? But I actually mean that in a positive way. Everyone came here to try, either to develop somehow, or to learn something, or to prove something. And actually, the anonymity works really well here,” she assessed honestly. However, she added that it has its pros and cons.
“A person can get into such a state that there are a million people like me. This may not always be a positive thought, but at the same time, on the other hand, in Slovakia, it can be the opposite. We are a very small community of artists, how beautiful, I love Slovak culture. But still, it’s small and we all get to know each other quickly, and it’s so motivating here. Every day you can meet 10 new artists and you can learn something from them,” thought Tamara, adding that she enjoys alternating these environments.
