The Islamic Center, located in Clermont, San Diego, is the largest mosque in San Diego County, according to its website.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has been informed of the “evolving situation,” his press office said in a post on X. “We are grateful to the rescuers and first responders who are on the scene working to protect the community, and we urge everyone to follow the instructions of local authorities,” the post said.

San Diego police said the situation at the Islamic Center is “active but under control.” It was not immediately clear if any shots were fired.

“We currently have significant forces on scene,” police said, adding that a nearby meeting point for family reunification has been designated at the San Diego Clairemont Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
