An alarm has sounded in San Diego, in the USA, after reports of a gunman in the city’s largest.
The local NBC television station, citing police sources, reported that “there are many injured” inside the facility, then updated the news to say that two people had been killed.

Mayor Todd Gloria reported through X that he has been informed of the presence of a gunman at the Islamic Center of San Diego, in the Clermont area, adding that strong police forces have been deployed at the scene.
I am aware of the active shooter situation at the Islamic Center of San Diego in Clairemont and am continuing to receive updates from law enforcement. Emergency personnel are on scene and actively working to protect the community and secure the area.

Authorities have appealed to residents in the area to stay indoors until the police operation is over.

The Islamic Center, located in Clermont, San Diego, is the largest mosque in San Diego County, according to its website.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom has been informed of the “evolving situation,” his press office said in a post on X. “We are grateful to the rescuers and first responders who are on the scene working to protect the community, and we urge everyone to follow the instructions of local authorities,” the post said.

San Diego police said the situation at the Islamic Center is “active but under control.” It was not immediately clear if any shots were fired.
“We currently have significant forces on scene,” police said, adding that a nearby meeting point for family reunification has been designated at the San Diego Clairemont Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
The scene at 7050 Eckstrom Ave is still active but contained. We have significant resources on scene at this time.
