In sixth World Cup, Cristiano Ronaldo leads Portugal’s list – 05/19/2026 – Sport

Unsurprisingly, Cristiano Ronaldo was called up by the Portugal national team to compete, at the age of 41, in his sixth World Cup this summer in North America, according to the list of 26 players released this Tuesday (19) by coach Roberto Martínez.

Injured at his Saudi club Al Nassr at the end of February, Ronaldo had to withdraw from the friendlies played by the national team in March, against Mexico (a goalless draw) and the United States (2-0 victory).

Recovered from injury, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is on track to reach the record of six World Cup appearances, which, barring any surprises, will also be equaled by his great rival, Lionel Messi, from Argentina.

The player born on the island of Madeira, who has already played in six Euros, confirmed in November 2025 that the 2026 World Cup would be the last of his illustrious career.

Ronaldo leads a Portuguese team of the highest level with an important number of players from the best European teams: Vitinha, João Neves, Nuno Mendes and Gonçalo Ramos (PSG), Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United), Bernardo Silva and Ruben Dias (Manchester City) or Rafael Leão (Milan).

In the tournament that will take place from June 11th to July 19th in the United States, Mexico and Canada, Portugal was in group K along with Colombia, Uzbekistan and DR Congo.

Before moving to its headquarters in Palm Beach, Florida, the team will play two friendlies at home, against Chile, on June 6th, near Lisbon, and against Nigeria, on June 10th, in Leiria (center).
