The text provides recommendations for protection, survival and first aid. Civil Defense states, in the document, that the United States represents a military threat to the country. It also says that one of its main functions is to protect the population in extreme situations, including war scenarios. Among the guidelines, the guide recommends that families prepare an emergency backpack with basic items for at least 3 days.
The survival kit list includes drinking water, ready-to-eat food, continuous use medicines, hygiene products, personal documents, flashlights, candles, matches and a portable radio. The material also advises families with young children to bring toys and calls for special attention for the elderly, people with disabilities and pregnant women.
Recommendations for air strikes
The guide also recommends that residents identify safe shelters against air attacks in advance, such as basements, tunnels and trenches. In the event of an alert, the population should avoid open streets, public squares and structures considered dangerous, such as gas stations and damaged buildings.
In addition to protection guidelines, the document includes basic instructions for helping injured people, especially in cases of fractures and hemorrhages.
