Senator is still waiting for a meeting with the president before defining his candidacy; PT president said he had given up
The senator (PSB-MG) will wait for the conversation with the president (PT) to hammer out the dispute over the government of Minas Gerais.
Earlier, PT president Edinho Silva said that the congressman had given up running for Palácio Tiradentes, but the conversation with Lula will be decisive. The meeting has not yet been scheduled and depends on the availability of the president’s schedule.
The meeting with Lula is considered decisive. At the meeting, the senator must present his conditions to enter the dispute. The assessment is that a candidacy requires more than the support of the PT, such as: consolidated political structure, mobilization of militancy, articulation with regional leaders and presence throughout the State. Part of these demands, according to interlocutors, should be addressed directly with the president.
There is also a personal and career assessment. Pacheco is considering going into the private sector.
The PT, given Pacheco’s indisposition, is already looking for other candidates. Minas is the 2nd largest electoral college in the country and is usually a thermometer for elections. Whoever wins in the State usually wins the Presidency.
