Republican decreed an oil blockade, alternates threats with offers of dialogue to precipitate radical change in the Caribbean country
The United States does not need to escalate against Cuba because the country is falling apart alonePresident Donald Trump declared this Wednesday (20) after the historic formal complaint against former president Raúl Castro. “There will be no escalation, it’s not necessary. It’s falling apart. They’ve really lost control of Cuba,” Trump told reporters following the announcement that his Justice Department wants to put Castro, 94, in prison for downing two planes in 1996.
The formal denunciation is a “very important moment”, added the American president, who is putting the communist island under great pressure, without power due to an American naval blockade against oil tankers. “I think it was a very important moment, not just for Cuban-Americans, but for people who came from Cuba and want to return to Cuba,” he explained.
Trump, who decreed the oil blockade, alternates threats with offers of dialogue to precipitate radical change in the Caribbean country. Faced with the disastrous situation on the island, its government offered 100 million dollars (504 million reais, at current exchange rates) in aid, but with the condition that the money be distributed by the Catholic Church or charitable organizations.
