Unions and Education intensify negotiations to end teacher strikes in Catalonia

Meeting between the unions and the Department of Education, last Thursday.

“We will do everything possible and we will meet when necessary to reach an agreement.” This is how Ignasi Giménez, Secretary of Educational Improvement, expressed himself at the end of the second meeting that the Department of Education held this Wednesday with the -except Secondary Teachers, who have withdrawn from the negotiation- to try to make it last for more than two months, with massive strikes that empty the classrooms and fill the streets. The meeting ended, once again, without an agreement, but with the will of all parties to seek a solution as soon as possible. Thus, it had proposed a negotiation calendar with two meetings a week, but finally the parties have decided to accelerate it and have agreed to daily meetings, at least this week.
