Police looking for suspect in murder of helicopter pilot in SP

The Civil Police of the State of São Paulo Looking for suspect of killing helicopter pilot Dato de Oliveira, 70 years oldduring an attempted robbery in the west zone of São Paulo. The crime took place last Tuesday (19), on Avenida Rio Pequeno.

Images from security cameras recorded the moment when one approaches the car driven by the pilot, announces the robbery and shoots at point blank range. After the shot, the criminal fled the scene.

Dato was rescued by the Fire Department and taken to the University Hospital, but he did not survive his injuries. The case was registered as a robbery — — in the 14th Police District of Pinheiros.

Who was the pilot

The pilot’s autobiographical work is called “Flying is the Second Best Thing in the World” and was released on the Jô Soares program. The book tells stories about his career in aviation, including plane crashes and even a hijacking involving an aircraft.

In a statement, GoFly Helicópteros, an aviation consultancy company, mourned his death: “With deep regret, aviation says goodbye to Cmt. Dato de Oliveira. His legacy, professionalism and passion for the skies will remain alive in the memory of everyone who had the honor of knowing him. May his last flight be in peace, under eternally clear skies.”
