The Municipal Museum of Tavira once again boosts the “Cabaz do Mar” project with a new activity dedicated to the universe of the municipality’s traditional salt pans. The initiative takes place on May 31st, at 10:30 am, at Salinas dos Herdeiros de Rui Simeão, in Tavira.
The project consists of visits guided by local producers, who share knowledge linked to the sea, traditional products and Mediterranean knowledge passed down between generations.
In this edition, participants will be accompanied by Licínio Adriano, responsible for the Salinas dos Herdeiros de Rui Simeão, on a visit that will allow them to learn about the artisanal salt production process.
According to the organization, the activity will showcase all the stages of work in the salt mines, “from cleaning the tanks to collecting fleur de sel”.
The initiative also aims to value “the traditional techniques and knowledge associated with this emblematic product of Tavira”, recognized with a Protected Designation of Origin (DOP).
Participants receive a basket of salt and fleur de sel
At the end of the visit, each participant will receive a basket made up of selected locally produced salt and fleur de sel products.
The activity lasts approximately two hours and registration is mandatory and must be done by May 28th through an online form, limited to the number of places available.
The cost is six euros for adults, and free for children up to 12 years old. Payment is made directly to the producer on site.
The Tavira Municipal Museum recommends the use of comfortable clothes and shoes, suitable for outdoor activities.
