Egypt’s coach, Hossam Hassan, released the list of those called up for the World Cup, with the main highlight being striker Mohamed Salah, 33, the team’s historic top scorer with 65 goals and who left Liverpool.
The African team will be Brazil’s last opponent in a friendly to prepare for the World Cup, with a duel scheduled for June 6th, at 7pm (Brasília time), at Huntington Bank Field, home of the NFL’s Cleveland Browns, in Cleveland.
Before that, Carlo Ancelotti’s team will face Panama, on May 31st, at 6:30 pm, at Maracanã, before heading to the United States.
Just like Portugal’s team, Egypt’s also announced a preliminary list with 27 names, initially with four goalkeepers, but only three will be able to be registered.
In group G, Egypt makes its World Cup debut on June 15, against Belgium, in Seattle. They will then face New Zealand, on the 21st, in Vancouver, and end their participation in the group stage on the 26th, against Iran, again in Seattle.
It will be Egypt’s fourth participation in the World Cup, returning to the competition after the last participation in Russia, in 2018. Previously, it was present in the 1934 and 1990 editions, both in Italy. Never made it past the group stage.
In addition to Salah, the Egyptian team’s main highlights in European football are striker Omar Marmoush, from Manchester City, midfielder Haitham Hassan, from Real Oviedo, and defender Mohamed Abdelmonem, from Nice.
