The presenter Maria Candido54, shared a video on social media celebrating a fresh start after going through a career transition. In the caption of the publication, she gave details of what motivated her and the processes she went through when changing professions.
“I started again at 53 years old. And today, almost 55, I became a postgraduate in Gerontology at Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein. Very happy!”, said Maria Cândido.
The former presenter of stations such as Record and Globo explained what the area means. “For those who don’t know, Gerontology is the area that studies aging in its various aspects: physical, emotional, cognitive, social and behavioral. And this has everything to do with what I talk about here: longevity, quality of life, healthy aging, menopause and the challenges and powers of maturity.”
Maria Cândido also revealed what her motivation was for studying the area. “And I, felt that I also needed to delve academically into this universe, especially because today I speak daily about women’s health, I lecture on the topic and I wrote ‘Menopause as a Journey’, my latest book, which became a best-seller.”
When commenting on the career transition, she summarized the experience in three processes: decision, training and action.
“Decision: understand clearly what you want to build. Training: study. Prepare. Gain repertoire and consistency in the new area. Action: go to the market. Test. Do. Adjust. Build in the real world.”, he wrote.
“There’s something very powerful about starting over in adult life: perhaps it’s more assertive, more aware and more connected with who you really have become. You leave your comfort zone. You exercise intellectual humility. You learn from people from different generations. You expand. I hope this post also encourages you.”
“Starting again. Changing course without fear. Studying something that makes sense for your next phase. Because getting older today doesn’t mean slowing down. Often, it just means starting over with more power.”, he concluded.
