Ukrainian drones hit the Russian economy. They knocked out a third of the country’s oil and gasoline production

Ukrainian drones hit Russian refineries so badly that they knocked out a third of the country’s oil production. Gasoline production is already feeling the effects of the attacks.

Ukraine’s drone strikes knocked out about 32 percent of Russia’s oil production and about 28 percent of its gasoline production. This follows from the calculations of the Russian independent newspaper Novaya Gazeta Europe, writes TASR.

The Reuters agency, citing sources from the oil processing industry, reported that the Ryazan Refinery Company has completely stopped operations after the May 15 drone attack. It is the third largest oil refinery in Russia, with an annual processing capacity of more than 17 million tons of oil.

They will also consider attacks on smaller refineries

Reuters sources also said that Gazprom Neft’s oil refinery in Moscow’s Kapotna district also suspended operations following the drone attack on May 17. As the ninth largest refinery in Russia, it has an annual capacity of 12 million tons of oil. Although the damage to the refinery was small, in order to reduce the risks, operations were stopped as a precaution. Production should resume in the coming days.

An attack by Ukrainian drones on the night of May 19-20 also caused a fire at the Lukoil Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez refinery near the city of Kstovo in the Novgorod Region. Its production has not yet been included in the calculations of Novaya Gazeta Europe. According to Reuters, it is the fourth largest producer of gasoline in Russia. With a processing capacity of approximately 17 million tons of crude oil per year, it produces over 50 types of petroleum products, including approximately five million tons of gasoline, over five million tons of diesel and over two million tons of heating oil.
