The Republicans should order an opinion survey in the next few days to probe the viability of the name of senator Cleitinho Azevedo (MG) as a pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic in 2026. The information was confirmed to Young Pan by interlocutors linked to the senator and the party leadership, in Brasília.

The initiative, according to these sources, came from the Republicans themselves and not from the Minas Gerais parliamentarian. The party would be excited about the possibility of launching its own candidacy for Palácio do Planalto, amid the scandals that have eroded the name of senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), considered one of the political heirs of Bolsonarism.

Cleitinho, for now, has not commented on the matter and, according to people close to him, You will only do so after you have the survey numbers in hand. The senator remains focused on the dispute for the government of Minas Gerais, a state that he considers his political priority for the next electoral cycle.

Despite the parliamentarian’s caution, the mood in the Republicans is optimistic. Party leaders believe that their own candidacy for the Presidency can strengthen the national party and expand its space in the negotiations for the 2026 election.
