More than 5,000 years ago, a man was buried in a so-called gallery grave in Niedertiefenbach, Hesse. This is a Stone Age grave complex for which large stones (ancient Greek: megaliths) were arranged in two rows. His son, however, found his final resting place around 225 kilometers further north, in a chamber carved into the rock near Sorsum, southwest of today’s Hildesheim in Lower Saxony.
