The pre-candidate for the Senate for São Paulo and former Minister of the Environment, Marina Silva (Rede), stated this Friday, 22, that the progressive camp is making “an effort” to define the composition of the Senate ticket in the State. Marina disputes the nomination for the second vacancy with the former minister of Entrepreneurship Márcio França (PSB).
The lack of definition has caused wear and tear among parties in the pre-campaign base of former Finance Minister Fernando Haddad (PT) for Palácio dos Bandeirantes. The PT member himself admitted to being uncomfortable with the delay, at a press conference on Thursday, 21st, in Osasco (SP). “I wish it was already resolved,” he said.
After participating in a panel at the Esfera 2026 Forum, in Guarujá (SP), Marina said that the PSOL-Rede federation also defends its presence on the majority ticket and stated that the conversations “have already advanced a lot”. According to her, the expectation is for a definition to be made by the end of this month or, at most, at the beginning of June, a period similar to that indicated by Haddad.
“We are making an effort to complete the work,” said Marina. “We are still in a discussion process and we hope that by the end of this month, at the beginning of next month at the latest, we will already have the recommendations regarding the second vacancy for the Senate.”
The former minister also stated that she strongly defended the name of the former president of the Brazilian Rural Society (SRB) Teresa Vendramini (PDT), Teka, for the position of Haddad’s deputy, but said that she chose to contribute to the government program, especially in the area of agriculture. The definition of the vacancy, he added, is being led by the PT member in search of the best solution.
Throughout the press conference, Marina also criticized the current governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans). She points out flaws in the state government’s indicators in areas such as public safety, education, environment and social assistance.

“You cannot govern a state like São Paulo just by privatizing, making concessions and charging tolls,” he said. “The privatization of Sabesp (Companhia de Saneamento Básico de São Paulo) did not solve a problem that has been around for a long time.”
She stated that the privatization of Sabesp did not solve the water crisis in São Paulo, a problem that, according to her, already caused suffering to the population in 2014, has worsened again and is likely to get worse with this year’s El Niño.
Marina also cited feminicides, violence against women and the homeless population as examples of problems that, in her assessment, should be considered when analyzing management’s deliveries. “When you see the data on feminicide, violence against women, the state of São Paulo is leading this ranking”, he continued.
The former minister also celebrated the results of the Datafolha survey, released earlier. In it, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) regained numerical leadership in the second round and widened the gap in the first. “People are coming into contact with the reality of the facts that are being brought, they are being brought in a calm way, with serious investigation, ensuring the broadest right to defense, which is how it should happen in a democracy”, he stated.
