SpaceX performs Starship test flight amid long-awaited IPO

This Friday, the 22nd, SpaceX launched the most recent version of Starship. The rocket was launched from Starbase in Texas.

Images of the Starship launch were broadcast live. The flight is the 12th test of the Starship vehicle since 2023, but the first this year.

The main objective of the test will be to demonstrate the new parts in a flight environment for the first time, with each element of Starship’s architecture featuring significant redesigns to enable complete and rapid reuse, incorporating learnings from years of development and testing.

Starship is a centerpiece of SpaceX’s bid to attract investors as the company prepares for an initial public offering (IPO) that could value it at $1.5 trillion or more. The rocket is designed to launch Starlink satellites, deploy the fleet of artificial intelligence satellites the company intends to create, and sustain CEO Elon Musk’s exploration dreams.
