  • Almost 10,000 Hamas police are blocking the implementation of Trump’s plan for Gaza.

Two rockets in the Shaykh Radwan quarter

The directorate’s statement said that two rockets hit a police position in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood in the northern part of Gaza City. An Israeli source told AFP that the Israeli army was attacking “Hamas terrorists” in the area.

The police directorate is in charge of security in areas of Gaza that came under Hamas control after a US-brokered ceasefire last October. Despite the ceasefire, Israel reserves the right to strike targets it considers a threat, writes AFP.

Trump’s plan for the Gaza Strip calls for 10,000 policemen

According to Reuters, almost 10,000 Hamas police officers are complicating negotiations on the next step in US President Donald Trump’s plan for the Gaza Strip. Hamas wants them to be included in the new police force that the plan calls for. Israel objects to the involvement of policemen with ties to Hamas.

Negotiations have also stalled because Hamas refuses to accede to the demand that it disarm, as well as because of continued Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, which, according to local authorities, have already claimed 880 lives since the conclusion of the cease-fire. In the same period, at least four Israeli soldiers were killed in militant attacks, Reuters added.
