João Camargo defended greater participation of business people in politics and asked businesspeople to collaborate financially in campaigns
The businessman, chairman of, stated this Friday (May 22, 2026) that Brazil’s economic performance in the last 8 years was “shameful”. For this reason, the businessman defended that the electorate prioritize concrete proposals in the 2026 presidential race, rejecting political polarization.
“If we don’t look for, when voting, who will present the best proposal, we will have another 4 years like these last 8“, he said, during participation in the 5th Esfera Forum, held in Guarujá (SP). Camargo referred to the current government, of (PT), and the previous one, of (PL).
In this sense, Camargo made an appeal for greater business participation in institutional policy.
“Adopt a federal deputy, adopt a senator, cover them, participate more actively in Brazilian public life”, he stated. Then he reinforced: “If possible, contribute financially to the campaigns. It is within the law and it is our duty”.

Camargo presented data comparing Brazil to the United States and said that the country “shrank” in relation to the largest economy in the world. He criticized the country’s loss of relevance in market, income and innovation indicators.
According to him, the Brazilian Stock Exchange was worth US$1 trillion in 2018, equivalent to 3.3% of the United States Stock Exchange. Currently, he stated, the value is US$ 1.06 trillion, while the United States Stock Exchange went from US$ 28 trillion to US$ 70 trillion. As a result, Brazilian participation fell to 1.5%.
“It’s not that we haven’t grown, we’ve shrunk”, he declared. “It is shameful to show that in 8 years we have lost 50% compared to the United States”, these.
Camargo also criticized Brazil’s performance in innovation. The country occupies 52nd position in the global ranking. “It’s not that we are a dwarf in innovation. We are an ant on the carpet”, he stated.

When criticizing the Brazilian political environment, Camargo said that the country needs to abandon short-term disputes and adopt State policies.
“I’ve never seen a country that arrests all the former presidents of the Republic. I think it is a crime for us to penalize all presidents of the Republic. Brazil must be proud of having a state policy”, he declared.
