Skin cancer
President Lula underwent two medical procedures at the end of April, at the Sírio-Libanês Hospital, in São Paulo. According to doctor Roberto Kalil, the team treated a skin lesion on his head and performed an intervention on the president’s wrist.
The skin lesion on the head was identified as a basal cell tumor, considered the most common type of skin cancer. “It’s the most common small skin tumor. We remove several on a daily basis at the dermatological office”, explained doctor Cristina Abdalla.
According to experts, this type of injury is related to chronic exposure to the sun and does not have major implications for the patient’s health. The treatment consisted of removing the lesion, a procedure considered simple and routine in medical practice.
Doctors recommended preventative measures such as wearing a hat and sunscreen to protect against continuous sun exposure. Until then, the medical team had not publicly informed about the possibility of radiotherapy as a treatment for the injury.
