The Corinthians Deliberative Council approved this Monday (25), in a meeting at Parque São Jorge, the expulsion of Andres Sanchez from the club’s membership for improper use of the corporate card for personal expenses.
Of the 167 councilors present, 112 voted for expulsion and 49 voted for non-expulsion. There were still six abstentions.
The majority of councilors agreed with the opinion of the Ethics Committee, prepared by the acting president, Leonardo Pantaleão, who recommended Andrés’ expulsion.
Now, the former president will be formally notified of the result of the vote so that the decision can take effect.
According to Pantaleão, this decision does not need to be endorsed by the club’s members. “This is a collegial judgment, the Council has autonomy, there is no need for a general assembly for this purpose [de expulsão]”, he stated.
The Ethics Committee’s opinion concluded that Andrés “committed conduct incompatible with the ethical-institutional duties set out in the club’s statutes, especially in relation to the use of corporate resources and the obligation to render accounts”.
The internal investigation found that the former president used the corporate card for personal expenses between August 2018 and February 2021, during part of his second term.
He is also investigated by the Public Ministry for the same reason. The amounts questioned reach R$480,169.60, including monetary correction and interest.
In the defense presented to the Council, Andrés claimed that there was no specific internal policy to regulate the use of the corporate card. The former president also maintained that part of the expenses were linked to institutional commitments, that there was confusion between personal and corporate expenses and that part of the amounts were reimbursed to the club.
Due to precautionary measures that prevent the former president from accessing the club’s facilities, he did not attend Parque São Jorge. The defense was presented by lawyer Alexandre Imbriani.
