The child’s body was discovered on the banks of the Vilaine River in the city of Rennes in the northwest of the country. A 16-year-old boy was arrested at the residence on Monday, while a 15-year-old girl was detained after she turned herself in to police. explained Rennes city prosecutor Frédéric Teillet in a statement.
“There are currently two young people in police custody who were seen at the crime scene together with the victim in the afternoon on the day of the incident,” Teillet said, adding that the two detained teenagers face charges of “murder of a minor.” At the same time, the prosecutor corrected the initial information and added that the victim was 11 and not 12 years old.
The boy’s body was found after one of the local fishermen alerted the police because he heard a child screaming in the area, a police source told AFP. Divers searched the river on Monday while dozens of police vehicles cordoned off the area.
