President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) received this Monday, 25th, a call from the president of Bolivia, Rodrigo Paz. The two discussed the humanitarian crisis experienced by Bolivia and Lula ordered the sending of humanitarian aid to the neighboring country.
“President Lula reiterated his solidarity with the Bolivian government and people and highlighted the importance of full respect for democratic institutions and the Rule of Law. In this context, he defended that the government and social movements avoid resorting to violence and favor dialogue as a way to overcome differences and preserve social peace”, says the note released by Secom this Monday.
Paz, who took power in November 2025, is suffering a wave of protests, which demand a way out of the Andean country’s worst economic crisis in forty years. Roadblocks surrounded the city of La Paz, the largest city and seat of the Bolivian Executive. Some regions of the neighboring country are lacking supplies.
This Monday, Paz announced that he will reduce his salary and that of the ministers who make up the Bolivian government cabinet by half, in an attempt to appease the strong protests demanding his resignation.
The Bolivian government asked Brazil to borrow a plane from the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) to assist with humanitarian aid in Bolivia. The request is being analyzed by Itamaraty.
