Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock states that the San Paolo brand product contained a mixture of vegetable oils in the product’s composition
The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) identified irregularities in batch 260289 of extra-virgin olive oil from the San Paolo brand, considered declassified and unfit for human consumption.
Analysis of the samples collected confirmed the presence of a mixture of other vegetable oils in the product’s composition, characterizing fraud. Based on the laboratory results, the inspection determined the immediate recall of the irregular batch.
Irregularities were also identified related to the company responsible for importing and selling the product. The address and National Register of Legal Entities (CNPJ) reported on the labels and tax documents were not located or confirmed.
The company was notified by the Federal Superintendency of Agriculture in São Paulo, but did not respond within the deadline and will be administratively fined.
“The sale of the product constitutes a serious infraction, and establishments that keep the items for sale may be held responsible. The Ministry advises consumers to immediately stop using the product and request a replacement, as provided for in the Consumer Protection Code”informed the folder.
Tips
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, to avoid purchasing olive oil that does not meet the compliance criteria, the consumer must follow some guidelines:
- be wary of the price (products priced well below market prices should trigger an alert);
- check the list of irregular products already seized in Mapa actions;
- pay attention to the characteristics of the packaging: the glass must be dark;
- Choose products with the most recent packaging date.
