The executive director of Nvidia stated this Wednesday (27) that the semiconductor company plans to invest aroundUS$150 billion per year in Taiwan, referring to the country as the “epicenter” of the artificial intelligence revolution.
The executive also predicted that the Asian country will remain the global technology manufacturing center for a long time.
“Four years ago, five years ago, Nvidia was spending about 10 to 15 billion dollars a year in Taiwan. Now we’re spending 100, going up to 150 billion dollars in Taiwan every year,” said during a groundbreaking ceremony in Taipei for the valued chipmaker’s planned Taiwan headquarters.
The project will begin this year and aims to aim to be operational by 2030Huang said. He did not provide a time frame for the number of years over which the company plans to invest $150 billion.
The Taiwan headquarters will bring Nvidia closer to TSMC, the world’s largest contract chipmaker, which produces many of the advanced semiconductors driving the trend in towards AI and is one of the main suppliers of the American technology giant.
It will also help the world’s most valuable company boost its alliances with other manufacturing partners, including Foxconn, Wistron and Quanta Computer, which play key roles in building AI servers and infrastructure.
“Taiwan is growing,” Huang said on stage to a crowd that included his family, about 1,000 employees and Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an.
He said Nvidia planned to employ 4,000 people in the new location.
“Taiwan is the epicenter of the AI revolution. This is where the chips come from, the packaging comes from, this is where the systems are made, this is where the Artificial Intelligence supercomputers were created.”

Taiwan plays a key role in AI for companies like Nvidia and Apple, and its position is supported by TSMC.
