Trump ignores Flávio Bolsonaro and does not post a meeting – 05/27/2026 – Politics

Neither the White House nor the president posted photos or made publications about the senator’s (-RJ) meeting on Tuesday (26). The silence about the meeting is atypical.

Last year, when Trump met in the Oval Office with then-Polish presidential candidate Karol Nawrocki, the White House X account posted two photos of the meeting.

Other candidates supported by Trump were the subject of publications on the American president’s account on the social network Truth Social.

“The people of Honduras cannot be fooled again. The only true friend of freedom in Honduras is Tito Asfura. Tito and I can work together to fight the narco-communists and bring much needed help to the people of Honduras,” Trump posted a week before the presidential election in Honduras in November last year.

“If Tito Asfura wins the election for President of Honduras, because people have a lot of confidence in him, in his policies and in what he will do for the great people of Honduras, we will give him a lot of support. If he doesn’t win, the United States will not throw money away, because a wrong leader can only bring catastrophic results to a country, no matter which country it is.”

Trump also made posts in support of Hungary’s Viktor Orban ahead of Hungary’s parliamentary election in April.

“Election day is Sunday, April 12, 2026. Hungary: GO OUT AND VOTE FOR VIKTOR ORBÁN. He is a true friend, fighter and WINNER, and has my Complete and Total Support for Re-election as Prime Minister of Hungary —VIKTOR ORBÁN WILL NEVER DISAPPOINT THE GREAT PEOPLE OF HUNGARY. I AM WITH HIM TO THE END!”

In the Brazilian government’s view, the fact that Flávio held a quick meeting – he spent an hour and 40 minutes at the White House, but the meeting itself with Trump may have only lasted a few minutes – and the American presidency did not make any publication about it could be a sign that the American president did not want to alienate President Luiz Inácio da Silva.

The two met at the White House three weeks ago. After the meeting, Trump published in Truth Social calling Lula “dynamic” and classifying the meeting as “very productive”

Flávio would still have meetings at the State Department this Wednesday (27), a territory friendly to Bolsonaro supporters. Darren Beattie, advisor in charge of relations with Brazil, and Ricardo Pita are close to the Bolsonaro family and strong supporters of the designation of the PCC and CV as terrorist organizations, which the Lula government opposes.

The Brazilian government has received signals that the results of the Section 301 investigation should be released in the next few days, which could result in tariffs against Brazil. In his meeting with Trump, Lula announced a bilateral working group for a period of one month to discuss the issue.

The White House trade representative, Jamieson Greer, is another ally of the Bolsonarists in the American government. The Lula government believes that Flávio and congressman Eduardo Bolsonaro can raise the issue of tariffs and push for taxation at meetings they will have in the American capital.

The last time this happened, when Trump imposed a tariff on Brazil in July last year, alleging persecution against former president Jair Bolsonaro, Lula’s popularity rose.
