Donation of fighter jets
Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reported that Stockholm is expected to announce the donation of JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets to Ukraine, which will be the older C and D models. Negotiations are also expected to begin on the sale of the newer E model. The two countries signed a memorandum of understanding in October 2025 regarding the purchase of 100 to 150 Gripen E aircraft by Kyiv.
The fighters are a priority for Ukraine’s air force, and Ukraine’s defense minister said in May that a Gripen E contract could be signed “within a few months” after the European Union approved a 90 billion euro loan for Ukraine.
